Close Boarded Panels or Rustic Panels
Once you have decided to renew your garden boundary fence with a new panel fence there are a couple of options available to you. The first is which type of panels to choose. There are many fancy types of panels available at garden centres which tend to be very expensive but can look nice if you have a specialist project. However, most fencing companies / contractors will offer the two industry standard panels. At Collinson Fencing we offer the rustic panel, also often referred to as waney lap or larch lap which has the horizontal slats and the close boarded panels which is slightly more expensive and has the vertical boards shown in the main picture above.
Concrete posts or Timber posts
Then the decision moves on to which type of post to use. Again there are two main candidates to decide between. Collinson Fencing offers both the concrete posts and timber posts. The timber posts are fully pressure treated to British Standards and the concrete posts are fully reinforced meaning both will still be standing strong for many years to come. So the decision should not be which one you thin will last longer but which one you prefer the look of. The last thing to decide is whether or not you wish to use gravel boards, sometimes referred to as kick boards, which keep the panel off the ground. The importance of keeping the panel off the ground is to keep it away from standing water which can damage the bottom prematurely. The concrete gravel board can also be used as a nice garden feature by building soil up against it for a rockery or a pond.
